Indian Coral Tree

BR Hills, Karnataka, 31 Mar 2006

This flowering tree is called the Indian Coral tree. Most of the forest animals depends on this as this blooms only in summers and summer is the season when they need food/nector the most. Notice the spikes on its branch. This tree only wants birds to come and drink the nector and does not want any mammals to come. However the langurs and squirrels have figured out ways to get around it.
